Militarization of police refers to the use of military equipment and tactics by law enforcement officers. This includes the use of armored vehicles, assault rifles, flashbang grenades, sniper rifles, and SWAT teams. Proponents argue that this equipment increases officers’ safety and enables them to better protect the public and other first responders. Opponents argue that police forces which received military equipment were more likely to have violent encounters with the public.

Yes, but only certain specially trained units, and then only in response to extreme situations.
@97VM9G51yr1Y
It is important that all potential criminals are "dealt with" effectively and brutally, as to hinder future crime.
@clementismyname2yrs2Y
Yes, but only the SWAT team should have access to it in emergencies in which they are called in.
@Matt-Palmerchuck2yrs2Y
Yes, as long as American civilians have access to the same equipment.
@93HTZPV2yrs2Y
Yes as the equipment is bought cheaply from the military. Reduce unnecessary spending.
@93HNT692yrs2Y
Yes, they should be trained to know how to use it to its intended use, they should be able to have the upper hand to protect our LEOs and be more powerful to the criminals.
@8T9D7X52yrs2Y
Yes, but get rid of grants incentivizing use of military grade equipment and restrict firearms to pistols, shotguns and sub-machine guns.
@6VB5B4J2yrs2Y
No, civilian law enforcement shouldn't be equipped with anything that a law abiding citizen couldn't own (excluding NFA items).
@88LK76J2yrs2Y
No and abolish all law enforcement.
@92YHQCV2yrs2Y
No, higher agencies should handle extreme situations with specialized training and equipment. However, if police departments are given strict training on how and when to use the equipment, and will only use military-grade equipment in response to extreme situations like the higher agencies with specialized training and equipment, then Yes.
@92YHQCV2yrs2Y
No, if they're used on a Daily Basis. But if they're used only in response to extreme situations and with strict training on how and when to use the equipment, then Yes.
@92YHQCV2yrs2Y
On a Daily Basis, No. But if they're used only in response to extreme situations and with strict training on how and when to use the equipment, then Yes.
@92YHQCV2yrs2Y
Yes, but only in response to extreme situations, and with strict training on how and when to use the equipment
@Legolass2yrs2Y
Yes, but only if citizens are also allowed to use military grade equipment.
@9334YP32yrs2Y
Excepting the sheriff's department, all police departments should be abolished and replaced by civil militias. Private citizens should be freely able to acquire, own and use military grade equipment.
@92ZT2NT2yrs2Y
Yes, but with strict training and only using them in extreme life threatening situations only.
@92X5HLD2yrs2Y
Yes, and all police should be privatized
@9229SCK2yrs2Y
The amount of police brutality has risen through the years. The police should be taught the right way without the privilege of military weapons.
@8ZGPKM92yrs2Y
yes only if they are trained and its need and and also if they are in danger for there life
@8ZDTRL72yrs2Y
Yes, but with strict training on how and when to use the equipment and also when the governor of the state gives the okay to do so
@8ZD5RNT2yrs2Y
I don't think that they need to use high expense explosives and other misses/dangerous military equipment but for certain occasions depending on what they may need some kind of high powered semi or auto assault rifle or other guns.
@RickStewart2yrs2Y
In a just country, where the government is not persecuting its own citizens, no military grade equipment will be necessary for law enforcement to do its job, which is to serve and protect.
@5G638ZV2yrs2Y
Yes, but civilians should have access to the same equipment as law enforcement.
@8Z2K5WB2yrs2Y
Military-grade just means made by the lowest bidder.
@8YYBYBH2yrs2Y
Hell no, they are already shooting people and arresting them, and framing them for no reason. SO I don't think giving the military-grade equipment is a good idea at all, if they want to use that stuff go to the military!! Sign up, but they should never be allowed to get their hands on the military-grade equipment, ever.
@8YRQH432yrs2Y
Both with extreme situations and with strict training on how and when to use the equipment.
@8YRQFLL2yrs2Y
I agree with the 2nd and 3rd.
@8YF4BR72yrs2Y
Yes, but only if approved by higher agencies in case they cant reach the area in time.
@8YJB9ST2yrs2Y
depends what the situation is
@8YJ6ZGY2yrs2Y
Yes, but only in response to extreme situations with proper training.
Deleted2yrs2Y
Yes, but it should only be used in extreme cases and should be provided with better training.
@8PWXW4S2yrs2Y
Yes, but only in the most extreme situations and with the proper training
Deleted2yrs2Y
Yes, but it should be used only in extreme cases and should be handled with better training.
@8XXLTYK2yrs2Y
Yes but only if it is necessary and then need proper training
@8XT5R4B2yrs2Y
Back when I was a child, growing up in a family of police officers, cops had the standard equiptment and used it to the best of their knowledge and ability, based on the situation they were about to enter. The weapons they carry are not conducive to the reason(s) they use it, i.e. guns don't kill, people do. It's all about the mindset of the officer, not the weapon. If you have a trigger-happy cop, it's not going to matter what he's/she's carrying
Deleted2yrs2Y
Yes, but it should be used only in response to extreme situations and should be handled with better training.
Deleted2yrs2Y
Yes, but they should be used only in extreme cases and should be handled with better training.
@8XPB39B2yrs2Y
Yes but only when extremely necessary like if there was to be another terror attack
@8XNW2C42yrs2Y
yes, but only in extreme situations and with lots of training
@8XM9TJS2yrs2Y
only if absolutely necessary
@8XH4JKP2yrs2Y
Military equipment should only be used if necessary. If the time comes that military equipment is needed to be used the police need proper training and know when and when not to use such weapons.
@8X8VVSN2yrs2Y
yes and no depends on what equipment
@8X8FW3X2yrs2Y
Yes, but only in extreme situations and only those with strict training should be allowed to use it.
@8X5YTFK3yrs3Y
depending on what they are doing like say protecting a building or something yes but for every day use no
